AZLE AREA ATTRACTIONS
Shady Grove Park, Azle
Two lane concrete boat ramp. No fee. No services. Shallow water. Take Hwy
199 west to Hwy 730 north to Stribling Drive. West to Lancaster. Turn left
and then left at J.D. Johnson Drive.
The Fort Worth Nature Center And Refuge
is a hidden jewel, a wilderness
comprised of forests, prairies, and wetlands reminiscent of how much of the Fort
Worth/Dallas metroplex once looked. Replete with native flora and fauna, the
area beckons to those searching for a piece of nature to refresh their spirits
and reintroduce a measure of tranquility to their increasingly urban
lifestyles. Over 3600 acres, the FWNC&R is the largest
city-owned nature center in the United States and offers residents and visitors
the opportunity to immerse themselves in the natural history of north central
Texas . Over 20 miles of hiking trails provide easy access to a myriad of
natural wonders to be found on the Refuge. Staff naturalists at the Hardwicke
Interpretive Center are available to facilitate your exploration. From Loop
I-820, exit Hwy 199 (Jacksboro Highway) and go west 4 miles. Exit Confederate
Park Rd. Stay on service road. Turn right at the stop sign. Take Buffalo Road to
Fossil Ridge Rd. Turn right onto Fossil Ridge Rd. Drive up the hill to the
parking area. Walk up the hill to the pebbled sidewalk. The Hardwicke
Interpretive Center is at the end of the sidewalk. Questions - call
